Choe's Martial Arts

Bringing Tradition back into the Art

Team Tempest

Team Tempest is the official tournament team of Choe’s Martial Arts.  Students on the team come from both color and black belt ranks and represent our school at various Open Taekwondo tournaments in Florida.  Those students interested in an even higher level of competition can also opt to enter AAU state tournaments and compete to qualify to attend AAU’s annual National Taekwondo tournament.

Membership on Team Tempest is by invitation by Master Choe.  Some of the criteria for membership include: a commitment to furthering one’s Taekwondo skills and understanding of the tenets, willingness to attend extra Team Tempest training sessions, and interest in representing Choe’s Martial Arts at tournament competitions.

Team Tempest has done very well both at Open tournaments and AAU Florida state qualifiers.  Students have regularly gone on from state qualifiers to compete and win at the AAU National level.  One of our team members qualified for the AAU National Team in 2010, going on to represent the United States at an international tournament in Spain.   Three different students have won 1st place at AAU National tournaments in the Forms Competition, Color Belt Division.  We also have had a 1st place AAU National winner in the Black Belt Division for Olympic style sparring.   At the 2012 AAU National tournament held in Ft. Lauderdale Team Tempest members took home the bronze medal  in Forms (Color Belts, 35+ age group), silver in Olympic Sparring (Black Belts, ages 14-17), and gold medal in Forms (Color Belts, ages 12-13).  At the 2014 AAU National tournament several team members placed for silver and bronze in both the Forms Competition and Olympic Sparring for the Color Belt Division. For the 2015 AAU National tournament 2 team members won gold medals in Forms (color belts, 6-7 and 8-9 age group), and team members also won silver and bronze in both forms and Olympic Sparring for their color belt divisions.
